The construction of the “largest multipurpose pavilion” in the Viana do Castelo district, with a private investment of eight million euros, will proceed “immediately” and should be completed in two years, it was announced today.

At stake is the construction, by a private developer, of a Cross-Border Exhibition Center (CET) and a three-hectare public park, which will have a lake, showers and sports equipment, and which will be installed in the current Quinta do Corgo, in the parish of Vilarelho, in Caminha.

The new space, scheduled to be completed in two years, will have the capacity to accommodate 2,600 seated or 5,500 standing spectators.

“The CET and the public park materialize an investment of eight million euros, which will be executed immediately. Once the infrastructure is built, the municipality of Caminha will lease it for 25 thousand euros per month, for 25 years. The municipality can choose to lease or sublet or directly explore the complex, totally or partially, ”the municipality explains in a statement sent to the press today.

The “promising lease agreement makes the investment feasible, but it will only be final after the construction of the work”, being that “the maintenance of the complex is the responsibility of the private investor, but the municipality of Caminha reserves the option to purchase the infrastructure “.

According to the Chamber chaired today by the socialist Miguel Alves, that promising lease was approved, on Friday night, at a meeting of the Municipal Assembly, by a “great majority.”

“The draft of the promissory lease contract for non-housing purposes of the future CET was approved by 22 members of the assembly and registered five votes against and eight abstentions,” the note specifies.

In the note, the municipality adds that during the discussion of that proposal, on Friday night, a representative of the investor intervened, among others, “who explained the entire philosophy of the group and revealed the reasons why Caminha was chosen for this investment. . wingspan”.

The administrator of Greenfield “also made a presentation of the project and showed the essential lines of the study carried out on the area of influence where this investment will affect, which includes territories in Galicia.”

“The two lawyers who analyzed and endorsed, from a technical and legal point of view, the business model of the CET also intervened,” says the note.

For the Câmara de Caminha, “it was necessary to go further and make the municipality attractive throughout the year, fighting seasonality”, and “the CET will allow this step to be taken, creating the conditions to host major national and international events. , for 365 days ”.

“The investment was carefully considered and negotiated and all the entities and people who worked on this ‘dossier’ have a public and recognized curriculum,” he says.

On Monday, the three councilors of the PSD in the Chamber of the socialist majority, rejected that contract for “not defending the interests of Caminha and having the objective of escaping the visa of the Court of Accounts.”

“This lease is made for the benefit of an individual (…). It does not seem reasonable to us to be in such a hurry, on the knee and without any economic feasibility study, to make a promising lease that will mortgage the municipality of Caminha for many years ”, they defend in the note.
