The presidential candidate, João Ferreira, considered that the intervention of the President of the Republic in matters of workers’ rights has been marked “by the absence, by the indifference”, after his meeting with the CGTP this Wednesday, September 23.

“Difficulties to reconcile professional and family life, restrictions on union activity, difficulties in accessing quality public services. It is in this context, aggravated by the consequences of the epidemic and the benefits derived from it, that an intervention by the President of the Republic different from the current one is essential, visibly marked by the absence, indifference and insensitivity to the situation of these millions of Portuguese ”. João Ferreira wrote on Twitter.

For João Ferreira, the appropriate intervention must have “the valorization of work and workers at the center of the concerns and intervention of the President of the Republic. I carry with me a feeling of identification with the difficulties of each one of those affected by these problems, along with a feeling of improvement ”.

The PCP MEP has also pointed out that “it is possible to give due centrality to work and workers” and recalls that it is a “crucial element of assessment and defense of the democratic regime.”

During the meeting with CGTP, João Ferreira also shared on Twitter that “the realities that are part of the lives of millions of workers in Portugal were addressed: low wages, precarious working conditions, unregulated working hours”.

João Ferreira presented his candidacy on September 17 and guaranteed that his career in the presidential elections “will be a space for common struggle.” His meeting with CGTP was the first initiative of the candidate after the public presentation of the application.
