“The desirable thing is that there is a budget, it is really very important, and I think it is natural that it be made possible from the left and not with another solution, because, as you know my position on the central bloc is to consider that the central bloc is not a durable solution, nor a good solution for the balance of the Portuguese political system“Said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, questioned by journalists on the sidelines of a visit to Torre dos Clérigos. The president raised the idea that it is “very important” that the State Budget proposal does not face an “infeasibility”, since “it has to be approved.”

According to the Head of State, the need for balance in the political system requires a formula of government supported by the left and an alternative by the right in opposition. This is because if the solution cannot create problems, voters will have another option, in their perspective.

“This is natural, this is what the Government has said, this is also the result of the opposition leader. So, I hope this happens and we have a budget that will take effect from January 1, 2021, ”said Marcelo.

Voting on most of the 2021 state budget proposal is scheduled for October 28. The document will be admitted to the Assembly of the Republic on the 12th of the same month. The final global vote takes place on November 27.Deficit “below the worst forecasts”

“We already knew it was going to be a bad result,” reacted the Head of State. “We will see what happens in the second half,” he concluded.

The slippage of the public accounts was, in the first semester of 2020, 5.4 percent of the Gross Domestic Product, in the national accounts.

“Taking the entire first semester of each year, the balance of PA [Administrações Públicas] it went from -1.2 percent of GDP in 2019 to -5.4 percent in 2020 ”, indicates the National Institute of Statistics on Quarterly National Accounts by Institutional Sector.
