The Swedish authorities are considering the adoption of local restrictive measures in Stockholm, due to the recent increase in infections by covid-19, which, if confirmed, would represent a change in the strategy adopted so far by the country to combat the pandemic.
“The downward trend is over. If the curve continues to rise, the situation could become dangerous, ”said Stockholm health official Bjoern Eriksson.
According to the Swedish health authorities, in the last seven days there have been 305 new cases in the capital, compared to 254 the previous week.
Also the head of public health of Sweden, Anders Tegnell, defender until now of the position adopted in the country, recognized that if the upward trend continues, it will be necessary to consider “local restrictions” in Stockholm.
Sweden has stood out from most countries and even other Nordic countries, in the same pandemic situation, by not adopting any recommendation for the mandatory use of masks.
Those responsible for that country have a privileged individual responsibility, instead of imposing restrictions, reports the EFE agency. This strategy generated controversy, especially in times of greater incidence of the pandemic, when the number of infections and deaths was even higher than in other countries in that region, which opted to apply measures.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 89,436 people have been infected in Sweden with the new coronavirus and 5,870 deaths.
