Is the Care 222 lamp a solution for the new coronavirus?

According to the information that was revealed, when emitting light from the ceiling, the Care 222 lamp is capable of inactivating 99% of viruses and bacteria in the air and on surfaces up to three square meters in a radius of 2.5 meters. Human harmless UV lamp can kill coronavirusThe Care 222 lamp was developed by the lighting equipment manufacturer Ushio in collaboration with Columbia University, in the United States, for its potential use in the disinfection of spaces with high influx and high risk of contagion, such as public transport or offices.

It should be noted that these types of solutions, based on ultraviolet light, have long been used as a means of sterilization, especially in the medical and food processing industries. However, conventionally used UV rays cause skin cancer and eye problems, so they cannot be used in spaces with people.

According to the Japanese company, this new lamp emits ultraviolet rays with a wavelength of 222 nanometers, instead of the conventional 254, which makes it benign for humans.

A study from the University of Hiroshima confirms that the type of ultraviolet rays used in the new lamp are effective against the coronavirus.

According to Ushio, at this wavelength, ultraviolet rays cannot penetrate the surface of the skin or eyes to cause genetic damage that causes cancer and other diseases. For now, the company only accepts orders from medical institutions.
