The Diocese of Viana do Castelo suspended the funeral celebrations of Bishop D. Anacleto Oliveira, this Monday afternoon, in the Cathedral of the city, due to a delay in the arrival of the remains.

A prayer time was scheduled tonight after the arrival of the body, but it was suspended.

“Due to delays, which are totally unrelated to the Diocese of Viana do Castelo, and taking into account that, therefore, the arrival time of the remains of D. Anacleto is completely unpredictable, their reception will only be of an intimate and reserved nature, so all the celebrations scheduled for tonight are suspended, keeping the rest of the announced program, ”announced a diocesan source.

The hearse, which carried the urn with the body of the bishop of Viana do Castelo, left the José Joaquim Fernandes Hospital, in Beja, at 7:25 p.m. on Monday. An autopsy was performed on the body in the medical-legal office of said health unit, after 4 in the afternoon, and after the covid-19 tests were carried out.

This Tuesday, the Sé church is expected to open to the faithful from 8 to 11 in the morning. The Funeral Celebration will take place at 3 pm, but is reserved for the family of D. Anacleto, the Bishops and priests.

The funeral takes place this Wednesday, in Cortes, Leiria, birthplace of D. Anacleto.

The bishop of Viana died on Friday, at the age of 74, the victim of a traffic accident in Beja, while returning from vacation in the Algarve.
