Rui Rangel, who has since been removed from the judiciary, is accused of passive corruption due to illicit acts, abuse of power, improper receipt of an advantage, usurpation of functions, tax fraud and falsification of documents.

In Operation Lex, 17 people were charged, including the former president of TRL Luis Vaz das Neves, the judicial secretary Octávio Correia and his wife, the president of Benfica Luis Filipe Vieira, two lawyers and a businessman linked to football. Jose Veiga.

At stake are the crimes of passive and active corruption by illicit act, undue obtaining of advantages, abuse of power, usurpation of functions, falsification of documents, tax fraud and money laundering.
