The Red Cross proposal, presented first-hand by the weekly Expresso, has already been presented to the Government.

The Ministry of Health wants to reach an agreement with the Portuguese Red Cross to carry out rapid tests for covid-19 in schools and homes.

The Executive is only waiting for the validation of the Ricardo Jorge Institute to give the green light to the use of 500 thousand tests available at zero cost.

In a report to which the SIC had access, the institute raises several questions and requests a working meeting with the Red Cross, DGS and Infarmed to discuss methodology and criteria for use.

The Red Cross has received international funding for the purchase of up to half a million tests and is proposing to make the remittances available to schools and households free of charge.

Francisco George, president of the Portuguese Red Cross, in an interview with SIC Notícias, explained how these rapid tests work and what distinguishes them from other tests that already existed.
