The number of infected associated with the covid-19 outbreak in the home of the Santa Luzia village, in Ourique, rose to 43 this Saturday afternoon. Among the five new cases, there is a two-year-old baby.

The results known this afternoon of the tests on close contacts of infected employees of Lar de Santa Luzia, owned by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Ourique, in the Beja district, allowed the identification of five more positive cases, increasing the total number of infections to 38 to 43 confirmed, said Marcelo Guerreiro.

Among the five positive cases known this Saturday, is a 2-year-old baby who is the grandson of one of the infected employees of the home and attends the Nursery and Kindergarten of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Ourique, said the mayor.

It is the second baby infected by the outbreak, after the confirmation of the infection of a first baby, who is the son of an infected employee of Lar de Santa Luzia, who goes to the lactation room of that nursery and attends 11 months ago on Monday .

Speaking to Lusa this Saturday, the provider of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Ourique, José Raul dos Santos, said that the baby who had a positive infection today attends the 02-year-old newborn ward with 10 other babies, who were closed and disinfected.

The educator and the assistant in the room today conducted tests for covid-19 and the 10 babies will be evaluated and all will be in quarantine to wait for the results.

Also today, all the remaining employees of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia Nursery and Kindergarten underwent screening tests.

According to Marcelo Guerreiro, among the 43 cases of contagion confirmed to date, there are 14 users, 13 employees and 16 close contacts of infected household employees, including the two babies.

An 85-year-old patient, who was the first confirmed positive case, is admitted to the Beja hospital, and the other 13 patients are in Lar de Santa Luzia.

The remaining 29 infected, 13 domestic employees and 16 close contacts, are in quarantine and are being monitored by health authorities.

The Câmara de Ourique hired a team of 12 assistants to replace infected employees and ensure services and care for users who are in Lar de Santa Luzia and created a line to support those infected at home in accessing essential goods and services until full recovery validated by health authorities.

The first positive case of covid-19 in the Lar de Santa Luzia, that of the 85-year-old woman, had been detected on the 13th of this month, after a test carried out by the patient at the Beja hospital, due to “a emergency hospital episode “. .

After the first case was detected, covid-19 tests were performed on Tuesday on the remaining 16 users and 24 household employees, 26 testing positive, increasing the number of infected to 27.

According to Marcelo Guerreiro, of the 40 tests carried out on Tuesday, 26 had positive results (13 users and 13 employees), ten negative (one user and nine employees) and four inconclusive (two users and two employees).

The only user who had a negative result in the first test was transferred on Wednesday to a house in the municipality and the two users and two employees who had inconclusive results in the first tests have already carried out second tests, which gave negative results.

These two users who had a negative result in the second tests are still at home, but will be transferred to other facilities, said the mayor.

According to José Raúl dos Santos, the first confirmed infected baby was with nine more babies in the nursery’s newborn room, which was closed on Thursday, with all the babies and four assistants and a home educator and they have already been tested .

The tests carried out on the nine children and four assistants were negative and the result of the educator’s test remains to be known, said José Raúl dos Santos.
