There are more Portuguese defending not only a new confinement, but also a more demanding one. At a time when the number of daily cases of Covid-19 tends to increase, an Aximage survey for Jornal de Notícias and TSF reveals that 47% of the Portuguese defend a new confinement – when, in July, 51% of the population rejected more radical measures to fight the pandemic, even though 50% believed that the country is now better prepared for winter. Plus: 54% of those surveyed want a more demanding containment than the previous one.

The North and the Center are the regions where there are more inhabitants to defend a new confinement (52%). The measure is also supported mainly by the middle classes (51%) and by people between 18 and 34 years old (65%).

However, there are Portuguese who do not agree with this measure. Especially the elderly, those with more money, those who live in Porto and those who vote for the PS. According to the survey, 51% of those surveyed between 50 and 64 years of age are against a new confinement, as well as 42% of the Portuguese with higher levels of income, 49% of those who vote for the PS and the 44% of those who live in the Area. Regarding compliance with the rules to combat the pandemic, 68% think that they are more compliant than the majority of Portuguese, especially the elderly, and only 6% admit that they relaxed in complying with the recommendations, especially the most young boys.
