The president of the PSD, Rui Rio, questioned this Thursday what is the significance of the departure of politicians as prime minister of the honor committee of the re-candidate for the presidency of Benfica, Luís Filipe Vieira.

“I always thought that the mix between politics and professional football was bad,” he replied, questioned on the subject by journalists in Coimbra, referring to the time in which he directed the Porto City Council, when, under his position, he was involved several times in controversy with the president of the Futebol Clube do Porto, Pinto da Costa.
For Rio, political action “should not be dictated by imperatives of an emotional nature or of sympathy from the club.”
“When we are in political positions of some importance, in general, we must refrain from mixing these things,” he emphasized.
