Portugal has 290 active covid-19 outbreaks, mainly in the north, and the average contagion rate was set at 1.15 last week, Health Minister Marta Temido said today.

The head of the sanitary portfolio intervened in the usual press conference of the General Directorate of Health, in Lisbon, to assess the epidemiological situation of covid-19 in the country.

Of the 290 active infection foci, 146 are located in the North, 95 in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 20 in the Center, 17 in the Autonomous Region of the Azores and 11 in the Alentejo.

According to estimates by the National Institute of Health Doutor Ricardo Jorge, mentioned by the minister, the average indicator of the Rt value (transmission index) was between September 7 and 11, at 1.15, which translates into 623 new cases infection per day.

In the same period, the highest transmission rate was recorded in the Alentejo region (1.53) and the lowest in the Algarve (1.1).

In the last seven days, the incidence rate of covid-19 was 39.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while in the last 14 days it was 68 cases / 100,000 inhabitants.

3 more deaths and 605 new cases of Covid-19 in Portugal

The General Directorate of Health (DGS) announced in this Wednesday’s bulletin the existence of a total of 1,878 deaths and 65,626 cases of covid-19 in Portugal since the start of the pandemic.

The death toll rose from 1,875 to 1,878, 3 more than on Tuesday, all in the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley

The number of infected people increased from 65,021 to 65,626 plus 605.

In the last 24 hours, there were 4 more hospitalizations, increasing the number of people with COVID-19 admitted to hospitals to 482, while the number of patients in intensive care units is 2 more, in a total of 61.

From yesterday to today, 166 patients have been recovered, so 44,528 people have already overcome the infection since the start of the pandemic in Portugal.

37,287 contacts are under surveillance, 332 more than on Tuesday.
