On September 18, the DTT migration process will begin in region 5, which covers the districts of Guarda, Bragança and Vila Real (the eastern half) and the municipalities located further east in the district of Viseu. The effects of migration may have been felt in some areas of this region already these days, as there are emitters from region 4 that impact this region, namely Carpinteira and Rectory, in Covilhã that have changed.

As of yesterday, September 15, 121 issuers had changed frequency, out of a total of 243, which means that the migration process is in the middle. Remember that this process aims to free up the 700 MHz band, necessary for 5G implementation. ANACOM has held meetings throughout the country with the Intermunicipal Communities (CIM), in order to inform the municipalities of the measures it has adopted to support the population in migration. To date, meetings have been held with 14 CIM, for a total of 188 Town Councils.

What happens when the DTT transmitter changes frequency?

When the transmitter changes frequency, the TV screen will be blank (black), but it will only be necessary to retune the TV or the DTT decoder and everyone will be able to continue watching TV for free, as has been the case so far. It is a simple process.

ANACOM took care to ensure that it will not be necessary to replace or reorient the antenna, change the television or decoder, and no one will have to subscribe to pay television services. In the case of condominiums / buildings that have installations with single channel amplifiers, they may need to be replaced.
