Low TT do Pinhal: Minister bans live on TV, ECB denies warning

This whole case of cancellation / postponement of Baja TT do Pinhal was triggered in a strange way. It is the first time in the history of Portuguese motorsport that a minister ‘prohibits’ a race live on television, and as you will understand later, the organization of the race, Escudería Castelo Branco, contradicts it, as the minister who reported said. organizers and organizers refute. In a statement, the Organizing Committee of the event recently issued a statement that can be read in its entirety:

CASTELO BRANCO ESCUDERIA
Minister of Internal Administration, prohibits the “Baja TT do Pinhal 2020”
The competition that Escuderia Castelo Branco had scheduled for this weekend, September 12 and 13, integrated into the World and European Casualty Championships, of the International Motorcycle Federation and the International Motorcycle Federation of Europe, and in the National Championships of all terrain, the Portuguese Motorcycle Federation and the Portuguese Automobile and Karting Federation.
After several months of work, carried out by a large team, in the preparation and assembly of the “Baja do Pinhal 2020”, with the essential collaboration of the Sertã, Proença-a-Nova and Vila Velha de Ródão Town Councils, of the Detachment From the GNR of Castelo Branco, the Relief Operations Command of the Castelo Branco District, the Fire Brigades of Sertã, Proença-a-Nova and Vila Velha de Ródão, health authorities, without whom Completion would not be possible, all it was ready, already with the presence of about 160 participating teams.
We had previously informed all the entities involved of the routes we were going to take. In view of the Alert situation, in the face of fire risks, we did not obtain any objection from any of the Town Councils involved in carrying out the test, as they were not in forest areas defined in any of the Municipal Plans of the affected Municipalities.
We have all the authorizations issued by the competent authorities, with special emphasis on the “District Operational Plan – Operation Baja TT do Pinhal 2020”, issued by the Castelo Branco District Operations Command, approved and approved by the National Operational Emergency Commander and Civil Protection, which was delivered to us yesterday, September 11.
Faced with all these situations, and because the conditions were met and with the consent of all the competent entities and authorities involved, we started the contest, with the delivery of materials and documents to the participants, after which he surprised us with a television report , in which, the Minister of Internal Administration, after the extension of the Alert situation, in the event of fire risks, until September 13, addresses the media and expressly refers to the prohibition “… of motoring in the Castelo Branco region, which has already been transmitted to the organizers,… ”, which does not correspond to the truth.

We accept this prohibition in this informal context, not wanting to question the different entities involved and we hope that you notify us. In this decision we count on the solidarity of the entities involved and identified above.
Unfortunately, until now, more than 24 hours later, “Escuderia Castelo Branco” has not received any communication or notification regarding the ban of the event.
We can only thank the competitors, the friends of motorsport and the populations involved, who went out of their way to express their support and solidarity.
For our part, we do not understand how it is forbidden to carry out a contest, in an intervention for Social Communication.
In view of all this, with the inconvenience that this situation has determined for us, as an organizer and for the entities and participants involved, some from different parts of the world, we will do everything possible to minimize this unfortunate situation, while developing the necessary work. and we will carry it out. the competition next weekend, September 19 and 20, waiting for everyone to understand each other better, which we thank in advance.
Castelo Branco, September 12, 2020
