Covid-19: Portugal today registers 5 deaths and 497 new cases of infection. There are 34 more hospitalized patients

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Portugal has registered 1,860 deaths and 17,556 cases of active infection.

DGS also advances that in the last 24 hours 250 patients have been recovered, a total of 43,894 people reported as recovered since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal.

The number of hospitalized patients rose to 438 (34 more) and the number of patients admitted to the Intensive Care Units amounted to 59 (five more).

The DGS indicates that four deaths were registered in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region and another in the northern region.

There are 36,055 contacts under surveillance, another 343 compared to Friday.

In the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley, 243 new cases were reported, representing 32,413 and 698 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The northern region now has 178 more cases, now a total of 22,997, with 853 deaths.

In the Central region there were 39 more cases, with 5,193 infections and 254 deaths recorded since the beginning of the pandemic.

In Alentejo, 26 more cases of covid-19 have been registered, with a total of 1,074 cases and 26 deaths so far.

The Algarve region today reported seven more cases of infection (1,214 cases and 18 deaths since the start of the new coronavirus pandemic).

In the autonomous region of the Azores, two new cases were registered, for a total of 236 infections, 15 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Today in Madeira there are also two new cases, representing 183 infections, with no deaths to date.

Confirmed cases are distributed in all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years.

In total, the new coronavirus has already affected at least 28,608 men and 34,702 women in Portugal, according to reported cases.

Of the total deaths, 936 were men and 924 women.

The highest number of deaths is still concentrated in people over 80 years of age.
