Altice Forum Braga celebrated its second anniversary today, debating the resumption of business tourism.

Ricardo Rio, mayor, highlighted the requalification of the space, inaugurated on September 11, 2018 by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, as “a remarkable moment for the city”.

“This facility underwent a transformative intervention that was not limited to physically rehabilitating the space, but effectively promoted its reinvention,” said the mayor during the opening session of the commemorative conference “Business Tourism Forum: resumption.

“Now it has the largest auditorium in the north of the country, the large warehouse became one of the most versatile spaces that exist nationwide and all the equipment was designed to be able to correspond to a multiplicity of events. This transformation places Altice Forum Braga in a benchmark for innovation and quality taking into account international standards ”, he added.

Two years after its inauguration, Altice Forum Braga already has more than 380 events held and with the visit of more than 776 thousand people, distributed by congresses, shows, concerts, festivals, sporting and corporate events.

“The reality came to corroborate this bet and show that it was worth all the investment made,” said the mayor, in the session that was attended by the coordinating director of Tourism of Portugal, Lídia Monteiro.

With a multitude of events already held, Altice Forum Braga has attracted all types of public and several partners who saw in this facility all the conditions to carry out their projects.

“This is a multifunctional space with enormous potential for use that has been valued by our partners and that has benefited Bracarenses,” said Ricardo Rio, recalling the economic return that Altice Forum Braga provided to the city and the entire region, giving as example of the Dance World Cup, a world competition that took place last year and which attracted some 27 thousand visitors to Braga, from 60 countries, generating a direct return of more than 12 million euros for the local economy.

At a delicate moment for the sector, Ricardo Rio recalled that, due to the circumstances of the pandemic, the space will lose around 80% of the number of visitors, representing a loss of approximately 1 million euros in direct income from events that it would normally take place in space.

“By commemorating this anniversary with a focus on the resumption of business tourism, we are giving a sign of hope and showing that the work we have developed, in alliance with several entities from very different fields, is to continue and we want to have a full house as as soon as possible ”, concluded Ricardo Rio, highlighting the role of the entire InvestBraga team in the last two years.

This conference also featured speeches by Luís Pedro Martins, President of Porto e Norte Tourism, Vitor Costa, President of the Regional Tourism Authority of the Lisbon Region, and João Fernandes, President of the Algarve Tourism Region, who analyzed the recovery challenges for the sector.
