TAP has not renewed fixed-term contracts since the pandemic began and in the coming months it should not renew contracts with more than 300 workers, reported Jornal Economico. By the end of September, the airline will have 600 fewer workers than last year.

The reduction of 900 jobs may be greater due to the restructuring plan to be presented in Brussels. It may require a reduction in routes and fleets, which will lead to a reduction in the number of workers at the airline that employs around 10,000 people, according to a source close to the process heard by Jornal Economico.

In August it became known that the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) had been the consultant chosen to advise the restructuring plan of the company that has to be presented to Brussels, after the Government approved a loan of up to 1,200 million on July 17. euros to TAP, in accordance with the decision of the European Commission, the State having assumed the majority of the share capital.

Regarding this possible plan, the TAP Workers Committee (TC) expects that the restructuring, advised by Boston Consulting Group (BCG), will focus on business development and not on a “TAPzinha ‘low cost’”, as recommended by the RISE project in 2016, from the same consultant.
