The National Institute of Statistics (INE) today released data on the average number of infected per municipality, per 10,000 inhabitants, noting that “the expression of the pandemic continues to be characterized by high territorial heterogeneity.” Of the 53 municipalities above the national average, twelve are in Minho.

“As of the end of August, there is a tendency to increase the number of new cases of covid-19, with values ​​higher than 2,500 new cases as of September 7 (accumulated values ​​of the last 7 days) and reaching 3,075 new cases cases (corresponding to 3.0 new cases per 10,000 inhabitants) on September 9, “says the INE.

On September 6, the reference date of the latest data released by the DGS at the municipal level, for every 10,000 inhabitants 2.4 new cases of covid-19 were registered, 53 more in 53 municipalities. Twelve of them are in the districts of Braga and Viana do Castelo.

Well above the national average is the municipality of Guimarães, with more than seven confirmed cases per 10,000 inhabitants.

With an average of between 2.4 and 7 cases per 10,000 inhabitants, there are eleven other municipalities in the Minho: Famalicão, Vizela, Póvoa de Lanhoso, Amares, Terras de Bouro, Vila Verde, Cabeceiras de Basto, Ponte da Barca, Monção, Cerveira and Caminha.

In the North region, 29 municipalities registered a value above the country’s average, with emphasis on the municipalities of Arouca, Póvoa de Varzim, Vila do Conde, Santo Tirso, Paredes, Lousada, Felgueiras, Paços de Ferreira, Castelo de Paiva and Penafiel.

With values ​​higher than seven new cases per 10,000 inhabitants, the municipalities of Sernancelhe (Douro) and Vimioso (Terras de Trás-os-Montes) also stood out.

In the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML), of the total of 18 municipalities, 11 presented values ​​above the national: Sintra and Amadora, with five or more confirmed cases per 10,000 inhabitants, followed by the municipalities of Vila Franca de Xira, Odivelas , Lisbon, Oeiras, Loures, Setúbal, Barreiro, Mafra and Seixal.

Also some municipalities in the Centro regions (Arruda dos Vinhos, Santa Comba Dão, Cantanhede, Águeda and Sátão), Alentejo (Odemira, Santarém, Reguengos de Monsaraz, Campo Maior, Sines, Benavente and Mora) and Algarve (Loulé) had higher values at national value.
