Northern Ireland withdrew mainland Portugal from the air corridor, following the decision of England, Wales and Scotland.

According to the news advanced by “Sky News”, the mandatory quarantine does not apply to British tourists returning from the Azores or Madeira. This decision will take effect as of 4:00 am tomorrow, September 12. Hungary and Polynesia are also blacklisted.

The decision comes days after England once again excluded Portugal from the list of safe countries.

This decision follows the increase in new cases that have been registered in the country since the end of August, with a higher incidence in recent days. Portugal yesterday registered 585 new infections and three more deaths from Covid-19.

The infractions will be sanctioned with fines of 1,000 pounds (1,100 euros), exempting freight drivers, doctors involved in the fight against the covid-19 pandemic and seasonal agricultural workers.
