The General Directorate of Health (DGS) announced on Friday the existence of 1,855 deaths and 62,813 cases of Covid-19 in Portugal since the start of the pandemic.

The death toll went from 1,852 to 1,855, 3 more than on Thursday.

The number of infected people increased from 62,126 to 62,813, plus 687.

35,712 contacts remain under surveillance, 531 more than Thursday.

There are 203 more people recovered from the disease, a total of 43,644.

The government of Northern Ireland has decided to put new restrictions on travel to Portugal.

Mainland Portugal is excluded from the list of safe destinations, but Azores and Madeira are included.

“As of this Saturday, whoever arrives in Northern Ireland from Portugal (excluding Madeira and Azores) Hungary, French Polynesia and Reunion will have to isolate themselves for 14 days,” reads the website of the Northern Ireland executive.

Thus, as of 4:00 am on Saturday, mainland Portugal is excluded from the lists of safe destinations of all the nations that make up the United Kingdom. Only Scotland also excludes islands.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 904,000 deaths and almost 28 million cases of infection in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.

After Europe succeeded China as the center of the pandemic in February, the American continent is now the one with the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
