Luis Pedroso, president of the Board of Maximinos, Sé and Cividade, in the city of Braga, tested positive for covid-19.

The news was advanced by Radio Universitaria del Minho (RUM) and confirmed by O MINHO himself.

According to the mayor, in statements to our newspaper, he began to experience a slight fever last Tuesday, which led him to take immediate action to test for the new coronavirus.

“I went home immediately when I realized I had a fever over 37 degrees, I arranged to get tested in the late afternoon and on Wednesday I received a positive result,” he says.

“It seems that the sky fell on me,” he admits, revealing that he does not remember how he could have been infected. “Like anyone who is infected, I tried to make a backup of the last few days, but I will be very honest, I talk to a lot of people every day, for the role of mayor, and as such, I cannot identify myself.”

As a consequence, the employees who are at the headquarters of the Board in Maximinos are all in quarantine, as well as the family that lives with Luís Pedroso.

The board building is also closed and should be disinfected in the next few days, and could reopen next week. Until then, a certain urgency can be addressed at the headquarters of the Junta da Sé, where there is an employee and another member of the executive to receive the ‘clients’.

“Mayors are also more prone to contagion”

Luís Pedroso has been, since the beginning of the pandemic, an avid promoter of the security measures dictated by the DGS, such as the use of a mask, disinfection and the avoidance of bunches.

“I believe that mayors, given the proximity to the populations, are closer to being able to become infected. And in this, as in everything in life, you have to have a bit of luck ”, he regrets, wishing, however, that“ just this bad luck ”, since he is practically asymptomatic.

This shows that we have to be very vigilant because, even with all the care, we run the risk of contagion ”, he emphasizes.

Luís Pedroso, elected as an independent with the support of the Together for Braga (PSD / CDS / PPM) coalition, anticipates a “very complicated September”, given the “increase in cases” that have been registered.

“We are going to have a difficult September because cases are increasing a lot. I will be very sincere, to the news that we have, the infected are young, from 20 to 39, who seem to eat covid, but the problem is when it comes to babies or the elderly, in homes, that’s where it gets complicated, ”Vinca. .

The mayor will remain in isolation for the next two weeks, but leaves an appeal to the population to “not facilitate.” “I appeal to try to comply as far as possible with the rules of the DGS, I know it is annoying to wear the mask, but that makes a difference,” he emphasizes, also asking for attention to avoid contact of the hands with the mouth or the nose.
