Sony’s plan was to charge more than € 499 for the console.

After much debate and speculation by gamers, Microsoft finally revealed the pricing for its next-gen consoles this week. The Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S will cost 499 euros and 299 euros, respectively, the price difference being justified by various hardware differences.

All attention now turns to Sony, which has yet to reveal the end date of the PlayStation 5 or the price of the console. The console will have two editions, one with a bluray player and one without it, but we do not yet know if the prices will come close to those announced for Microsoft consoles.

According to information from GameReactor, who spoke with a source familiar with Sony’s plans, the proposal was to charge more than 499 euros for PlayStation 5. No exact figure is given or if Sony will change the price of the console in response to Xbox prices Series X and Series S.

Microsoft is apparently willing to lose money on each console sold, hoping to recoup lost margin from the sale of games and services like Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold. Sony can choose the same strategy to be able to compete with the new consoles of Microsoft.

If PlayStation 5 is more expensive than Xbox Series X, will it influence your purchase decision?
