The Home Study will return to RTP Memória. The new telescope was created “in a situation of absolute emergency” due to distance education that imposed the closure of schools on March 16 and the broadcasts will continue throughout the next school year, between September 14 and June 30 . Despite the fact that classes begin in person, the Minister of Education explained this Wednesday.
“It was worth it. It was essential to have this tool,” stressed Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, assuming that the Home Study has become a support instrument for teachers even in classroom teaching. In addition, he assumed that journalists, at the end of the presentation, can also be a support for the students of a class who have to stay at home.
The Home Study will operate between 9 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, in thematic blocks from 1st to 12th grade. This school year, 1st and 2nd grade classes will be broadcast in separate blocks. And the tenth classes. 11 and 12 will only be published on RTP Play.
“It is a tool that does not replace face-to-face education, but that came to help and will last beyond the pandemic,” the minister insisted.
The president of the RTP board of directors, Gonçalo Reis, stressed that the Home Study had “a huge impact” and, therefore, will become a public television brand, even after the pandemic it will maintain educational and training content on its grid . In addition to RTP Memória, at the end of the previous school year, classes were broadcast at RTP Africa and next year they will be at RTP International to reach out to migrant communities, he guaranteed.
Between September 14 and June 30, more than 5,200 classes will be broadcast. More than 100 teachers will participate.
