The National Serological Panel Covid-19, the platform through which volunteers can apply to participate in the serological study of the disease, already has more than five thousand records, being close to reaching half of the total of 12 thousand necessary candidates, advance the ‘Fast’.

According to the same publication, since the opening of the site (on Tuesday at 00:00 hours) 5,535 people have registered, that is, almost 45% of the total required, who are willing to undergo a free serological test, in an attempt to realize if antibodies against the disease have been developed, to achieve the much desired immunity.

“Until 9:00 pm yesterday, September 8, and despite all the technical issues, we confirmed the registration of 5,355 volunteers from all over the country, almost 45% of the total sample that we expected to gather in a month,” they said in a statement. those responsible for the Panel, whose study is carried out by the Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM) and financed by the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Society and the Jerónimo Martins group, cited by ‘Expresso’.

The website of the National Serological Panel of the João Lobo Antunes Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM), created so that the population can register and participate in the serological study of covid-19, remains blocked due to the strong adherence registered.

The site opened at midnight on Tuesday and in less than 24 hours it was down, continuing from yesterday, and even the helpline created to obtain additional information, did not support the high volume of calls.

A note was created on the IMM website that reads: “We thank all the Portuguese for their enormous interest and support in this project. At the moment and due to the high participation, the platform is not available due to technical problems that are being resolved. Those responsible had expressed their intention to resolve the situation until this Wednesday, but to date the problem persists.

It is recalled that Portugal will recruit 12 thousand volunteers to evaluate, with a representative sample of the population, the prevalence of respiratory infection by covid-19 in the country, a study that began today in which several collaborating entities participate.

The study, which begins in practice with the recruitment of participants of different ages and 102 municipalities of the country, including islands, will be carried out by the IMM João Lobo Antunes of the University of Lisbon, being financed at two million euros by the Francisco Society Manuel dos Santos. and from the Jerónimo Martins group, refers to a statement released by the promoters.

Serological tests (collection of a blood sample that allows the detection of antibodies against the coronavirus that causes covid-19 disease) will be carried out, free of charge for volunteers, until October 7 at 314 collection points at the German Medical Laboratory in Sousa, a partner company, and covers all districts.

The results of the study, presented as “the first serological panel for covid-19 with expanded national coverage”, is expected by the end of October and will allow “to provide Portugal, and also the scientific community, the most comprehensive evaluation ever carried out on the infection prevalence in the country ‘.
