He arrived in Portugal this Wednesday morning and will soon be announced as a FC Porto reinforcement. Evanilson arrives for the attack of the dragons, but three years ago he almost quit football.

Francisco Evanilson de Lima Barbosa was born in Fortaleza, Brazil, and at age 20 he embarks on the greatest adventure of his career so far. The young player leaves Fluminense and strengthens FC Porto, but this is an outcome that might not have happened had it not been for the support of the family after one of the most difficult moments in the goalscorer’s life.

In 2017, Evanilson saw his mother, Madalena, leave and thought about quitting soccer. If it weren’t for the support of his family and partner, the Brazilian would probably never become a professional player, a dream his mother had, but could not see fulfilled.

The forward even admitted, at one point, that he may have left football after his mother’s death. “I forgot about football, I forgot about the whole world. I thought about leaving football, but my family and my wife supported me. It was a very difficult moment, but I am sure that now you are seeing my prominence and without a doubt He is very proud of it, ”he was quoted by GloboEsporte, who recalls the story of the now reinforcement of dragons.

Very attached to his family and, mainly, to his mother, Evanilson had to leave those he loved the most to try to start gaining space in football. It was 2013 and the forward, in the service of Estação-CE, went to test Fluminense after a good performance in the final of the Cearense U-13 Championship. The sister, Mylena, remembers that she did not believe that “Baby”, as he was affectionately called in Cajazeiras, the neighborhood of Fortaleza where he grew up, would have the courage to get away from his family and try his luck in soccer.

“My mother and I never imagined that I would have the courage to travel, because I was very young. He was only thirteen years old. And also because he was very attached to our mother, ”he says.

The truth is that Evanilson really went to Rio de Janeiro, to the youth of Gripe, and there he met Mariana Abreu, his wife, one of the great pillars in the player’s life after the death of Madalena. “We heard everyone say that he had fallen a lot, that he was no longer the same. But we were always sure that he would do well, because he is very dedicated, “said the companion.

And after a very busy 2017, the Brazilian returned to the tricolor and exploded. He scored 28 goals in 34 games for the Fluminense U-20 and the following year he was promoted to the main team. In 2020, with the stoppage motivated by the pandemic, he won nine times in 22 games and now comes to Europe to reinforce FC Porto, where he will have the opportunity to play the Champions League.
