Sporting and Sp. Braga reached an agreement on the payment of Ruben Amorim, which will cost the Leon safes a total of 12.1 million euros (plus the 2.3 million paid in VAT, which gives a total cost of 14.4 million).

In the first place, it must be said that the agreement provides for payment in installments, throughout this season, with the technician’s debt being paid in full just before the end of the season.

The first tranche had to be paid on the day the agreement was signed, which has already happened: Sporting settled this Tuesday 2.5 million euros, with 9.6 million more to be paid until June.

Well, in the end, not having paid the hiring of Ruben Amorim will cost Sporting 2.1 million euros: António Salvador did not agree to forgive a penny, so SAD Leonina is obliged to pay another 1.5 million euros fine. compensation and another 600 thousand euros for accrued interest to date.

At this point, it is worth re-recording all the steps that were taken up to this agreement. Initially, when Sporting agreed to pay Ruben Amorim’s termination clause, Sporting negotiated the payment of 10 million euros in two installments: on March 5 and September 5.

Before March 5, the deadline to settle the first tranche, Sporting paid the 2.3 million euros related to VAT, but did not liquidate the first tranche, as it had been contracted.

Now Sp. Braga handed the 2.3 million euros to the State and was waiting for a contact from Sporting. That contact occurred on March 6, when Frederico Varandas spoke with António Salvador, requesting a moratorium until the end of the month because, supposedly, he was waiting for a section of the transfer of Bruno Fernandes to Manchester United.

Sporting did not pay until the end of March, nor in April, nor ever again. Nor did it justify delays in debt settlement. Until the morning of Friday, September 4, when Frederico Varandas called António Salvador requesting a new payment agreement.

The two leaders spoke and reached an understanding that it would be possible to make a new payment contract, which would prevent Sp. Braga from proceeding with legal proceedings in the Portuguese Football Federation, in the Arbitration Court for Sport and in the UEFA.

António Salvador authorized the legal department of Sp. Braga to agree with the legal department of Sporting the details of the agreement, however, there are three non-negotiable clauses: the payment of all amounts owed (including the fine for compensation and late payment interest) ), Sporting’s total assumption that it had breached the previous agreement and the establishment that the new contract would be enforceable, that is, it dispenses with the courts.

Sporting ended up accepting these demands and then the agreement was signed whereby Sporting pays a total of 12.1 million euros for the hiring of the coach.
