The Municipality of Braga extended the deadlines for public discussion of the Municipal Master Plan (PDM) for the Sete Fontes area and the respective Urbanization Plan, as well as the reform of the Regulatory Code of the Municipality of Braga – Historic Center.
These participation processes will therefore have a longer term than legally established to promote a broad and comprehensive discussion among the Braga society.
According to Councilor Miguel Bandeira, “the Chamber has sought to actively involve all actors, citizens and institutions, in the formatting of its structural documents, of which these two processes are an excellent example. A longer term means more participation and, of course, a richer and more legitimate final document ”.
The public discussion on the change to the title of part B of the Regulatory Code of the Municipality of Braga – Historical Center was extended for another 30 days. The changes are available for consultation on the portal of the Municipality and Balcão Único.
The public discussion of the process related to the modification of the PDM for the Sete Fonte Area and the Urbanization Plan will have a period of 60 business days.
All documents are available for consultation on the setefontes.cm-braga.pt portal or, physically, at the Balcão Único, located in the Pópulo building, from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The family wants expropriation
However, seven heirs of a Braga family went to the local Civil Court to try to force the Chamber to expropriate the 1.8 hectares of land it owns in Sete Fontes. As O MINHO learned, the owners are asking for the appointment of an arbitration commission for expropriation, arguing that they do not accept the value offered by the Chamber – which wants to create an eco-park in the area – of 14 euros per square meter.
The ecomonumental park will have as its main anchor the old system, from the 18th century, of water supply to the city, which is a national monument.
The lawsuit follows an identical one, filed in 2019, by businessman Ermelando Sequeira, from Vilaminho, with 4.5 hectares in the area ”. I was forced to go to court because the Chamber does not speak. It plunges people into a paralyzing bureaucracy and does not respect their rights and interests, ”he said. And he asks: “Where did you get the ten euros? They give me less than the price I paid for them ”.
In addition to the civil action, the Sampaio family also appealed to the Administrative Court, although without an immediate claim for compensation, arguing that the land in the area is worth 100 to 120 euros per square meter, which makes the proposal to pay ten euros is “Unfair”. . So far, the largest owner, Veloso de Azevedo, with 7.5 hectares, has not appealed to the courts.
Contacted by the way, the Councilor for Urban Planning of the Municipality, Miguel Bandeira, stressed that he does not know the action in detail, highlighting that he respects the rights of landowners in the area: in public discussion ”.
The mayor rejects criticism of the “lack of dialogue”, recalling that recently, by mutual agreement, 9,700 square meters of land were acquired in the area, 7,300 of which were used for the Sete Fontes project. “It is not an easy process, it has many difficulties to overcome along the way, but Braga will have its eco-park,” he says.
