Covid-19: three more deaths and 388 cases of infection in Portugal | Coronavirus

There are three more deaths (two in the north and one in the Lisbon region) from covid-19 and 388 more cases of infection in Portugal, 0.6% more than the previous day. In total, there are 60,895 confirmed cases of contagion in the country, with 1,846 deaths and 43,146 people who recovered (130 more than on Monday). The number of active cases in the country is now 15,903.


The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region is the one with the most daily infections: there are 225 more (a total of 31,273); in the north, there are 119 more cases than the previous day (in total, 22,049). The northern region is the one with the most deaths (851), followed by Lisbon and the Tagus Valley (687).

26 new cases were also detected in the central region, 11 in Alentejo, three in the Algarve, three in the Azores and one infection in Madeira.

There are still 394 more people hospitalized (13 more than Monday), 50 of whom are in intensive care units (one more than the day before).


The data were released on Tuesday in the epidemiological bulletin of the General Health Directorate (DGS). Of the 1,846 deaths registered in Portugal since the beginning of the pandemic, 927 are men and 919 are women.


The overall fatality rate for the disease in Portugal is 3%. Of the people who died, 86.7% were over 70 years old (including 70). On Tuesday, two of the fatalities were in their 80s and one in their 70s to 79s.


On Monday there were three more deaths and 249 new cases, as well as the largest increase in the number of hospitalizations in the last two months: 27 people were hospitalized in one day.

The covid-19 pandemic (a disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus) has killed more than 892,000 people worldwide since the first cases were detected in December in China. There are 27.3 million confirmed infected and, of these, more than 18 million have recovered.
