Authorities said it was a “serious incident”. “We can now confirm that we have launched a homicide investigation, following the events of last night,” West Midlands Police said.

“A man died and another man and a woman were seriously injured. Another five people were injured ”, reported the authorities.

Police say the victims were chosen at random and that the incidents do not indicate a specific attack on a community or a gang fight.

“We believe that the incidents […] they are related and we are doing everything possible to hold the culprits accountable, “the document reads.

At a press conference, Chief Superintendent Steve Graham said, quoted by EFE, that efforts are focused on finding the perpetrators and “understanding exactly what happened.”

In an earlier statement, police said they had been called at 12:30 a.m. by a person who had been stabbed in the city center, before being warned that other similar incidents had occurred shortly thereafter. Several emergency medical services followed.

The authorities established a security cordon in the area, in the center of the city, and advised the population to stay away from the place.

This morning, Chancellor Dominic Raab said in an interview on BBC One’s “Andrew Marr Show” that he had “received no information linking the stabbings” to terrorist attacks.
