The young man was transported by helicopter to the Santa María Hospital in Lisbon.

A young man was seriously injured early Sunday after falling into the moat of the Vila Viçosa castle in Évora while fleeing the GNR.

According to a source from the District Emergency Operations Command (CDOS) in Évora, cited by the Lusa agency, the wounded man, a 25-year-old young man, was transported in a helicopter from the National Institute of Medical Emergencies (INEM) to the Hospital de Santa Maria, in Lisbon.

Speaking to the same news agency, a GNR source explained that a resident of the area called the security force complaining about a noise situation in the Vila Viçosa castle. “A patrol went to the place to see what was happening and a group of people, realizing the arrival of the military, began to flee, with a young man falling into the castle moat,” said the source.

The alert was given at 03:00. Fifteen elements were mobilized for the site, supported by six vehicles, including firefighters and vehicles from the Vila Viçosa corporation, an Immediate Life Support (SIV) vehicle from Estremoz and the helicopter, in addition to the GNR.
