The man who stabbed his 73-year-old stepfather in Ferreira do Zêzere on Friday will be awaiting trial in pre-trial detention. The crime was committed in the context of a dispute over custody of the aggressor’s son, who lived with his grandparents.

It was the Court of Ourém that decided, this Saturday, to put the murderer in preventive detention after the man was arrested on Friday by the Judicial Police (PJ) of Leiria.

He never accepted that custody of his son, now two years old, would be handed over to his grandmother (mother of the murderer) and his partner (stepfather). After multiple conflicts in recent months, Miguel, 43, decided to kill his relative. Everything indicates that the crime was premeditated.

The murderer had already visited Rubária’s house in Pias, Ferreira do Zêzere, several times to be with his son. The visits were never peaceful, to the point that the GNR was convened several times to defuse disagreements.

The court had decided to attribute the child’s education to the retired couple and Miguel was not satisfied. on Friday, before eight o’clock, he showed up at her house and reportedly demanded to take his son back to Lisbon, saying he was willing to do anything to get it.

Francisco, a retired bank employee born in Ferreira do Zêzere but who has always worked in the Lisbon area, tried to stop him from taking the child. Armed with the dagger, he stabbed his stepfather several times. He grabbed the boy and ran off with him to an area of bushes.

Neighbors noticed the screams and knew immediately that this time the scorn had been much more violent. They followed Miguel and the boy’s crying led them to the place where father and son were hiding. They immobilized the man and held him until the arrival of a GNR patrol, which handed him over to the PJ.
