The Espinho Chamber sent this Wednesday to the Court of Accounts the process related to the contract of 4.47 million euros for the construction of the Municipal Stadium, revealed this Saturday the municipality, waiting to receive the visa within the legal term.

The work in question has been directed for more than 40 years by the population of this municipality of the Aveiro district and is considered essential for the activity of Sporting Clube de Espinho, which, without its own stadium since 2018, began to use the field as a loan . from the neighboring Fiães club, in the municipality of Santa Maria da Feira, and this season it has moved again, now to the headquarters of the Associação Desportiva Ovarense, in the municipality of Vareiro.

The Court of Auditors has already given us a positive opinion on the loan of 1.8 million euros to proceed with the construction of the stadium, but now we fear that the limitations related to the covid-19 could delay the final answer, without which We will not do it, we can start with the works, ”the mayor of Espinho, Joaquim Pinto Moreira, told Lusa.

The Social Democratic mayor sees possible delays as especially problematic at the current juncture, because the usual process “has already taken time” and, in a pandemic context, any setback will have more serious consequences.

The term for the Court of Accounts to rule is 30 business days.

The “speed in the conduct of the process,” he said, will be decisive considering the obstacles that are anticipated in the course of the undertaking itself, which is expected to culminate in 660 days.

“If one of the companies involved in the work has a positive case of contagion by covid-19 and it is necessary to quarantine others, that will represent 15 days of forced unemployment, after which the resumption of work will also occur slowly” . , justified.

Designed for land close to the Parque da Cidade, the Multipurpose Sports Hall, the Ténis Complex and the Pousada da Juventude, the new Municipal Stadium of Espinho will be presented in a concrete tone, with a visor to finish off successive pillars and roof. white enameled metal.

Based on the project of the architects Diogo Lacerda and Rui Lacerda, this team will have independent entrances for each team on the field, four covered benches and a capacity of 5,200 seats.

Although owned by the municipality, the building will function as the headquarters of the Sporting Clube de Espinho through a concession protocol that “will always guarantee the availability of space for other sporting and cultural events” scheduled by the municipality.
