Portugal remains off the UK blacklist

Portugal will remain off the UK travel blacklist. The decision was announced today by the British Government and advanced by the Economic Journal.

“The list of air corridors remains under constant review and we will not hesitate to eliminate countries if necessary. However, today there are no additions or deletions. However, British tourists must bear in mind that the situation in the countries changes very quickly ”, announced the British Transport Minister, quoted by that source.

It is recalled that Portugal today registered 418 new cases of covid-19 infection and two deaths, leaving only 13 days outside the black list of the British government.

According to data from the PC Agency, Portugal registers 23 new daily cases for every 100,000 people in the seven days ending on September 3. In the 14 days ending on September 3, the country registers 38.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, says the travel consultancy.

To understand the evolution of the pandemic in the country, a week ago Portugal registered 15.3 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days that ended on August 27.

The UK has set a maximum target of 20 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over a seven-day period, and if a country reaches or exceeds this limit, it will be blacklisted.

It follows from this blacklist that travel is still allowed, but imposing a 14-day quarantine period when returning to the UK could be a deterrent for many British tourists.
