Bruno Fernandes wants Ronaldo for many years in the national team and assures, in an interview with A BOLA, that he does not see himself as the captain’s successor.
– How do you live the postponement of a European Championship, for which you had prepared to the maximum?
– It’s complicated. For those who have had a good year, taking away the possibility of defending our title always costs a lot. But there are things that have to be done differently and this year it was like that, for the good of all, for the health of everyone around us, and possibly so that we can have a European with full stadiums and not empty stadiums.
– And we have champion of Portugal one more year.

– Is it possible to win the title again?
– I really admire the belief of Mr. Fernando Santos: we have to believe that we can always do more and better and I think that is what is on the minds of everyone who goes to the national team. The most important thing is to do everything possible and give a very good image of what our country is, when Portugal joins it gives a very positive image.
– Before the European Championship there is now the League of Nations. Another title that Portugal must defend …
– It’s an interesting competition. In the first one, nobody said they were very interested in winning, but the fact is that everyone was fighting until the end… We had teams like England, Holland and Switzerland in the last four games. But Portugal once again showed that it has quality and that it can beat any team. This year we have a complicated group.
– Both in the League of Nations and in the European …
– If true. But we have Portugal with all the quality and then we will have the World Champion [França]. It will be an interesting group.

– The fact that I have little rest favors me even compared to those who do preseason, who we all know are heavy. I will be stopped for two weeks until the first training session, but in the end I stopped for just one week completely, I took the opportunity to train, to be able to arrive with a minimum rhythm.
– Some people start to think about who will be Cristiano Ronaldo’s successor in the National Team… Many people point out Bruno Fernandes, do you feel it and are you ready?
– I never heard that and I hope that Cristiano lasts many years in the national team, because what we felt, and a while ago at a dinner with Bernardo and Cancelo we talked about it there in England, we said that the game may not be good but in a ball He can score a goal and we know it, we have that notion.
– Also when you came to Manchester United, because there you went to Sporting, did you compare him with Ronaldo?
– It is inevitable: because it is Portuguese; to come from the same club. But in another way, because Cristiano arrived very young and I was already 25, almost 26. That is why I am a little more mature. But I have to pedal a lot to be able to compare myself to Cristiano. There were times when Cristiano was not there and the team had to play as a whole, because we did not have our reference, we had others, but what we did well when he did not come (and we do it even when he is here but knowing that there is a reference that easily helps us score goals) was that the team stood out a lot: by not having that player, we knew how to manage the lack of Cristiano.
