A GNR soldier was arrested this Monday by the security force that he is part of for being suspected of collaborating in a scam with the sale of imported cars. The scheme will have earned at least one million euros.

In the operation, led by the Lisbon Territorial Command and the GNR Fiscal Action Unit, another man was arrested. They are 37 and 50 years old.

On Thursday, both will appear in court for the execution of possible enforcement measures. They are prosecuted for qualified fraud, document falsification, active and passive corruption and qualified tax fraud.

“As a result of several complaints of fraud in the subtraction of kilometers in used vehicles, first imported and then put up for sale at national car stands, it was found that criminal activity extended to obtaining illegitimate financial advantages, through a scheme fraudulent based on fictitious billing circuits and business simulation “, describes, in a statement, the GNR.

The objective would be to achieve “VAT evasion and fraud in the automobile sector”. “The criminal activity has allowed those responsible to obtain an illegitimate asset advantage of at least one million euros,” he said.

In the operation, called “West Price”, 19 vehicles, a machine to manufacture license plates, several license plates and various documents were seized. In total, 11 domiciliary searches, 19 non-domiciliary searches and seven automobiles were made.

The action also counted with the collaboration of elements of the Tax and Customs Authority, the Scientific Police Laboratory of the Judicial Police and the Institute of Mobility and Transportation.
