Public schools want to measure temperature

Two weeks before the start of the school year, the directors of public schools request that the temperature measurement be allowed to students at the entrance of educational establishments. However, some private schools have already planned this measure for September. TO SUNFilinto Lima, president of the National Association of Directors of Public School Groups (ANDAEP), explained that this would be “a preventive and beneficial measure even for the most inattentive parents who take children with fever to school.”

In May, regarding the return to classes of high school students, some schools decided to measure the temperature of the students at the entrance – “and very well”, considered Filinto Lima. Classes began on May 18 and, the following day, the National Data Protection Commission (CNPD) issued an opinion, stating that the measurement of temperature, “regardless of whether or not the respective record constitutes a treatment of personal information.” . Neither the guidelines of the General Directorate of Health nor the regulations of the Ministry of Education refer to the need to measure temperature and, therefore, the CNPD considered that the “restriction of rights, freedoms and guarantees, such as the right to Respect for privacy and the right to protection of personal data can only be given by law, (…) and, therefore, in no case may a regulation of an educational institution introduce a restriction of these rights in a manner innovative ”.

Filinto Lima argues that the rules for schools should be the same as those of other institutions, especially private ones. For example, at the beginning of a show, it is allowed to measure the temperature -without the respective registration-, or in the workplace, companies can already measure the temperature of the workers. In fact, a law was published in May that allows companies to measure temperature. «Can the private do and the public not? What is good for the private, is it bad for the public? »Filinto Lima asked.

With regard to this measure, some private schools will measure the temperature of the students at the entrance of the school. TO SUN, the Association of Private Educational Establishments explained that this is an option of each institution, not being a rule for all private schools that begin to receive students as of next week.

Physical Education is still waiting for rules

The PE teachers are still waiting for tutoring orientation so they can plan next year’s classes. The general director of Health, Graça Freitas, guaranteed this week, during the usual conference, that the bases will soon be known, but the president of the National Association of Directors of Cluster of Public Schools recalls that “more than the announcement, it is I need to give myself account of what is promised. In addition to Filinto Lima considering the arrival of guidelines for Physical Education classes “urgent”, she remembers that it is also necessary to create a regulation for School Sports. “Maybe team sports, soccer, basketball are taught in a different way, or not even taught, because it involves physical contact,” added Filinto Lima.

Parents dissatisfied with distance learning

Only three out of ten parents said they were satisfied with distance learning in the first cycle during the lockdown season; the findings are from a Deco study. Of the 537 parents surveyed at the end of June, the majority rated the distance education model negatively, also assuming that their children missed school and friends during the months they were closed at home. The majority of parents, 72%, reported that their children needed help while studying alone. Almost half of those in charge of education said that studying at home was more difficult for younger people.

The support dedicated to children with special educational needs deserved the most negative evaluations: an average of 2.5 out of 10.
