The Israeli army has been bombing the Gaza Strip every night since August 6 in retaliation for the Palestinian attacks, mainly by launching balloons and incendiary projectiles.

According to data from the Israeli authorities, the incendiary balloons have already set more than 400 fires in Israel.

In response to these attacks, Israel also tightened its blockade of Gaza, closing the passage of cargo and interrupting fuel deliveries to Palestinian territory, forcing the closure of the only power plant in the Gaza Strip.

This rise in tensions in Gaza has doubled in the last week, when the first cases of Covid-19 were recorded outside of local “quarantine centers,” a situation that has increased fears of a rapid spread of the virus.

This territory is small and densely populated, with half of the two million inhabitants living below the poverty line and also deprived of electricity.

According to a Hamas source, who requested anonymity, all Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip agreed to stop firing balloons and incendiary projectiles.

The same source added that Gaza will be replenished from Tuesday with fuel that will allow the local power plant to restart.
