About half of the new cases of Covid-19 in the country this Sunday (51.4%) were registered in the North, once again ahead of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo in this chapter.

According to the daily bulletin of the General Health Directorate (DGS), the region had 162 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 (five more than yesterday), now accumulating 20,776 infections since the pandemic began.

This situation must have contributed, among others, to the situation in the municipality of Arouca, where the DGS identified an outbreak at the Casa do Povo de Santa Cruz de Alvarenga nursing home, affecting 64 people. However, on Sunday morning, the Arouca City Council said the total number of active cases had doubled to 128.

Second, like Saturday, there is the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley, which encompasses the Lisbon district and part of the Leiria, Santarém and Setúbal districts. This Sunday registered 121 cases, 28 less than the previous day.

All other regions together had fewer than 40 cases. The Center registers 20 new infections, Alentejo 11 and Algarve 6 (after registering a peak of 37 this Saturday, after an outbreak in the Louletano national soccer team).

In total, there are 320 new people infected in the country, 54 less than the previous day. The bulletin of the General Directorate of Health indicates that the autonomous communities “escaped” these statistics, without new infections in the last 24 hours.

There are now 341 people hospitalized with Covid-19, 17 more than in Saturday’s bulletin. It is the highest record of the last two weeks, when, on August 14, 348 hospitalizations were identified.

The DGS bulletin also reports on 41 critical patients admitted to intensive care units, one more than the day before. In this way, it returns to the number registered last Tuesday.

This Sunday, there was still one death from Covid-19, registered in the North (now it accumulates 849 deaths, more than any other region). They are followed by Lisbon and the Tagus Valley (663), Center (253), Alentejo (22), South (17) and Azores (15). Madeira has not died in this pandemic.
