According to Public, these contracts are worth more than 1.8 million euros signed with a computer company. It is also said that inspectors from the PJ’s National Unit to Combat Corruption seized documents and emails, and also searched the residence of the target businessman.
The General Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to the newspaper the existence of an investigation that is being carried out in the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action in Lisbon and that they have not “constituted defendants so far.”
ANAC declined to comment on the searches made last Wednesday and the suspicions in question. However, Público had access to an internal statement in which it indicated that “after a complaint from the Workers’ Commission, ANAC was searched at its facilities.” The regulator also says that the proceedings were “normal” and guarantees that “it provided all the requested collaboration, providing all the information and documentation that was required.”
ANAC also states that “it has always complied, complies with and will comply with the law, observing all the principles of good public management.”
The newspaper says that at least five contracts that ANAC signed with two companies owned by businessman Sadik Jamal are being investigated, with a global value of more than 1.86 million euros between 2015 and 2019.
And in statements to Public, the businessman confirmed the records and commented on the situation. “I have nothing to fear. I delivered what they asked me to. I do not see illegality in the contracts I signed,” he guarantees, stressing that “they will not find anything compromising” in the seized documents.
