The decision comes after the release of a video in which several officers can be seen surrounding an individual on the ground and using truncheons after he has shot down and tried to arrest a policeman.
In a statement, the PSP explains that it had been warned, “by several citizens, of the occurrence of contempt between several people, apparently drunk, near a restaurant and beverage establishment located on Avenida do Brasil, Venda Nova, Amadora” .
Upon arriving at the scene, the police found “a group of very excited citizens, threatening each other and in violation of current regulations to prevent the spread of the pandemic by covid-19.”
The individuals will not have respected the “orders to cease threats and dispersal,” which forced a police intervention that resulted in the identification and constitution of the accused of several citizens and in the arrest of two of them, for threats, injuries and assaults on the police.
An amateur video that captured part of the intervention was disseminated on social networks and caught the attention of the PSP. “Because the video recorded procedures for the use of force whose legal and regulatory compliance needs to be investigated, a disciplinary investigation process was initiated,” the PSP explained this morning.
