A couple residing in Braga benefited, for more than a month, from the daily food support provided by Colégio Luso International (CLIB) when they did not need it, in view of the high profits derived from the reform, of around 2,000 euros, from the public offices they had. throughout his life in the Chamber of Braga.

The situation was denounced and reached the management of the school, which has been supporting needy families in the municipality, daily, in a mega-project of solidarity, and the latter questioned the family in question, and finally cut the support.

MINHO spoke with a CLIB source who confirmed the cancellation, yesterday, of the action for that family, having confirmed that the family had income that excluded them from the solidarity law.

The source explained that the couple obtained support after requesting it from a partner association, and that it was “in good faith” that they needed food aid.

“Only those who walk in the rain get wet, and when asking for help at a time like this, the first instinct is to help those in need to be helped,” he said, adding that the partner association may also have been misled.

The source of the family in question, which includes two pensioners from the Chamber of Braga, confirmed the cut. The man was a conductor of Mesquita Machado for several years, including working with Ricardo Río at the beginning of the term of the mayor elected by the “Together for Braga” coalition. He will have a reform that will allow him to live a more relaxed life, like his wife, who has always worked for the municipality.

The source told O MINHO that the woman suffers from a muscle disease that involves the purchase of various medications, and although she is a recipient of ADSE, this benefit does not contribute to the medications. However, the family accepted the cut of support, understanding that there are other people in greater need who deserve to be benefited with food.

MINHO testified that CLIB was not aware of the real situation of the family, since it included it in the list because it believed that it was a needy family, with little mobility and without the help of other family members, something that will not be true. .

This solidarity movement is driven by a network of volunteers who cook and prepare around 300 meals a day during the week and around 350 on weekends.
