Young bather missing on Barra beach

Maritime Police.

Two young men were rescued by surfers when they were struggling at sea on Barra beach, Ílhavo. A third child, in his 20s, was reported missing.

The Aveiro Port Captaincy activated the searches after the alert, which occurred at 18:37, next to the south pier.

In addition to the means of the Maritime Police, two speedboats, one ‘Salva Vidas’ (ISN) and one from the GNR, participated in the searches until nightfall.

The rescued swimmers (a 15-year-old girl and a 19-year-old boy) were assisted in a state of hypothermia by personnel from the Emergency Medical Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER), but were safe. Then they went by ambulance of the Ílhavo firefighters for hospital observation in Aveiro.

The three young people are residents of the Gafanha da Nazaré parish. The boys will be cousins.
