From now on it is possible to schedule telemedicine appointments in different specialties, such as Cardiology, Gynecology-Obstetrics, Orthopedics, among others. The teleconsultation option, by videoconference, is available from March 24, starting with the specialties of General and Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.
In view of the current public health emergency situation, “CUF is committed to developing solutions that allow it to continue responding to the needs of the population and guarantee the continuity of medical care for patients who are generally followed in CUF units” , avoiding unnecessary trips to the health units, whenever the clinical situation allows it.
In this context, it is essential that patients see their doctor whenever necessary, either by teleconsultation or in person if warranted, as an alert. David Silvério Rodrigues, coordinating doctor of general and family medicine at the CUF Torres Vedras Hospital: “despite the context of isolation and social distance in which we live, people continue to have diseases and clinical conditions that require support and help from the services of Health. They still need their doctor and nurse. “.
“What concerns us most is the safety of people”adds the doctor. CUF Torres Vedras restructured the circuits and operating protocols in order to reinforce the safety of clients and professionals in the health unit and also allowed remote medical care, through teleconsultation. “Which makes it possible to reduce trips to the hospital and, at the same time, respond to your health problems. For example, many of the chronic problems already known, such as diabetes and hypertension, can be managed perfectly with a contact by teleconsultation. Of course, if we consider that the clinical situation warrants a face-to-face evaluation, we ask the person to go to the hospital for a more thorough and ingenious evaluation. ”, explains David Silvério Rodrigues.
The specialist also warns about situations in which rapid action is decisive to avoid serious harm or even death to the patient: “Given chest pain, difficulty breathing or speaking, lack of strength, heavy bleeding, and severe burns or injuries, people should not be afraid to go to the hospital or even call 112.”
Clients can schedule teleconsultations for doctors available in this modality through the website, the My CUF application or the telephone. To conduct a teleconsultation, customers must ensure they have a device with a camera and microphone (smartphone, tablet or computer) and internet connection. If necessary, and after validation by their physician, clients have the ability to schedule urgent and important appointments in person.
