74 drivers penalized for speeding between Braga and Famalicão

The Braga GNR Traffic Detachment arrested 74 motorists in flagrante delicto, all for speeding, in the course of an operation related to the “Viagem Sem Pressa” campaign, run by the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR), between Braga and Famalicão, this Wednesday morning.

Once the operation was completed, 3,692 vehicles had been checked on National Route 14, said the commander of the GNR Braga Transit Detachment, Captain Mário Abreu, to the A3 toll access area in Santiago da Cruz, in Famalicão.

The joint work of both entities, unleashed at the national level, was part of the “Viagem Sem Pressa” road safety campaign, integrated into the 2020 National Inspection Plan, which runs from this Tuesday until next Monday. market.

One of the objectives of the actions on the road, where together with the inspection, there is knowledge of the techniques of the National Road Safety Authority, is to warn of the risks of speeding, since it is one of the main causes of accidents .

Road safety, PSP and GNR will control speeding in joint operation

Inspection operations, carried out by GNR and PSP, with a special focus on compliance with the rules of the Highway Code and complementary legislation on speed, include the ANSR’s 24-hour control, through its radar network.

“ANSR, GNR and PSP remind us that speed limits and rules related to moderation exist for the protection of all, especially the most vulnerable, so compliance is vital”, emphasizing that “speed is the main cause of a third of all fatal accidents ”and also that“ the faster we drive, the less time we have to immobilize the vehicle, when something unexpected happens ”.

“In a 10-kilometer trip, increasing speed from 45 to 50 kilometers per hour only allows one minute and 20 seconds to gain, however, a reduced speed difference can make the difference between life and death,” according to those entities.

Road accidents are not fatalities and their most serious consequences can be avoided by adopting adequate speeds and respecting the limits “, according to ANSR, GNR and PSP, whose National Inspection Plan, framed in the Plan.
