68 more deaths on Wednesday with fewer cases since October 21

This Wednesday, Portugal registers 3,384 cases and 68 deaths from covid-19. In total, more than 303,000 people have already been infected with the new virus.

More than 3,384 infected with covid-19 were reported, compared to Tuesday, according to today’s epidemiological bulletin, bringing the total number of cases since March to 303,846. Of these, 75,755 correspond to active patients, of which 747 they were recorded until midnight. This was the Wednesday with the fewest new infections since October 21, when there were 2,535 infections. With more than 2,569 recovered, the total number of patients considered cured amounts to 223,446.

The northern region represents another 1857, which is equivalent to about 55% of all new cases, which brings the total number of infected to 159,642. It is followed by Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, with 939 new infections (and a total of 100 thousand). In the Center region, there are 401 more cases (in 30,426), in Alentejo another 85 (in 6368) and in the Algarve another 74 (in 5425). The Azores archipelago records 22 new cases (in 1061) and Madeira, plus six cases (920).

68 more people died in Portugal; now there are 4645 deaths to mourn (2420 men and 2225 women). The North is also the region with the highest number of victims (36). In Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, there were 23, in Centro seven and Alentejo two. As has become the rule, the vast majority of the victims (44) were 80 years or older: 19 men and 25 women. Between the ages of 70 and 79, 18 people died (16 men and two women) and four men between 60 and 69 years old and two between 40 and 49 years old.

Today 3,338 patients are admitted to the hospital (63 more than yesterday). In intensive care units the figure rose to 525 (four more than yesterday). 78,815 citizens are monitored by the health authorities, 1,148 less than yesterday.
