The television debates between the seven candidates for the presidency of the Republic begin today and should only end two days before the elections scheduled for January 24.

Initially, RTP, SIC and TVI only had scheduled debates between six candidates – Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Ana Gomes, Marisa Matias, João Ferreira, André Ventura and Tiago Mayan – but the acceptance of Vitorino Silva’s candidacy by the Constitutional Court led television. Público and Porto Canal to propose new ones face to face to include the former mayor of the PS and founder of the RIR party.

Between now and next Saturday, the 9th, the eve of the official start of the electoral campaign, 21 television debates are scheduled, with Porto Canal announcing another round of face-to-face meetings with Vitorino Silva for the week prior to the elections.

Two debates are scheduled for today: the first on RTP1, between Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, current president of the Republic, and Marisa Matias, candidate supported by the Left Bloc (BE), at 9:00 p.m., followed by the ‘duel’ between the candidate supported by PCP, João Ferreira, and André Ventura, from Chega, which begins at 22:00, on TVI24.

On Sunday, there is only one debate, on RTP, between Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Tiago Mayan, a candidate supported by the Liberal Initiative.

Three debates are scheduled for Monday, an average that will continue until the 9th: Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa – João Ferreira on TVI (9:00 p.m.), Marisa Matias and the socialist supported by PAN and Livre Ana Gomes (22:00, SIC Notícias ), and also in person Vitorino Silva – André Ventura (22:45, RTP3).

On Tuesday, January 5, RTP1 has the debate between João Ferreira and Ana Gomes (9:00 p.m.), while SIC Notícias broadcasts the André Ventura – Tiago Mayan debate, followed by RTP3, at 10:45 p.m., the confrontation between Vitorino Silva and Marisa Matias.

On Three Kings Day, January 6, the debates will take place Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa – André Ventura (21:00, SIC), João Ferreira – Tiago Mayan (TVI24, 22:00) and Vitorino Silva – Ana Gomes (22:45 , RTP3).
