Insolvencies increased by 23.6% in the Viana do Castelo district, registering a negative variation of 20% compared to 2019 in terms of the number of companies, according to data from Iberinform, a Crédito y Caución subsidiary, released today.

At the national level, there was an increase of 2.2%, until the end of November, compared to the same period last year, and the creation of new companies decreased by 24.6%,

“At the end of November, bad debts registered an increase of 2.2% compared to the same period in 2019, while the creation of new companies fell by 24.6%,” Iberinform said in a statement.

In the total of the first eleven months of the year, there were 4,695 bad debts, 2.2% more than in the same period of the previous year, a value, however, lower than the figures found in 2018 (5,398) and 2017 (5,787) .

In November alone, there were 506 insolvent companies, seven fewer than in the same period in 2019.

By districts, Lisbon and Porto have the highest number of insolvencies, with, respectively, 948 (plus 2%) and 1,206 (plus 8.5%).

The largest increases were recorded in the districts of Castelo Branco (32.1%), Vila Real (28.2%), Viana do Castelo (23.6%), Faro (22%), Madeira (20%), Évora (13.2%) and Bragança (12.1%).

On the contrary, the districts that showed decreases, compared to the previous year, were Coimbra (-28.8%), Guarda (-20.5%), Portalegre (-16.7%), Aveiro (-10.5% ). ), Ponta Delgada (-8.3%), Viseu (-8.3%), Braga (-3%) and Santarém (-2.2%).

By sectors, those that registered the greatest growth in the number of insolvencies until November were telecommunications (33.3%), hotels and restaurants (18.8%), electricity, gas and water (8.3%) and other services. (7.4%).

Construction and public works, manufacturing and retail trade, on the other hand, showed respective decreases of 2.9%, 2.5% and 0.9%.

Constitutions returned from 3,607 last year to 2,841 this year, or 21.2% less.

From January to November, constitutions decreased 24.6%, compared to the previous year, to 34,629 companies.

Lisbon has the highest number of constitutions with 10,945 companies, followed by the Porto district with 6,156.

However, both districts show a strong decrease compared to the same period of 2019: -29.6% in Lisbon and -26.2% in Porto ”, he revealed.

The rest of the districts, with the exception of Portalegre, presented a negative variation in terms of constitutions, highlighting Setúbal (-31.5%), Ponta Delgada (-30.7%), Angra do Heroísmo (-28.2%), Faro (-26.1%), Madeira (-25%), Aveiro (-22%), Leiria (-20.6%) and Viana do Castelo (-20.4%).

Regarding the activities, all presented negative variations, compared to 2019, with an emphasis on transportation (-54.7%), hotels / restaurants (-29%), electricity, gas, water (-27%), constructions and works public (-23.6%), other services (-22.8%), vehicle trade (-21.1%) and mining and quarrying industry (-20%).
