44-year-old woman dies in IP2 collision in Castelo de Vide. 11-year-old boy taken by helicopter to hospital – Portugal

A woman died this Saturday and five other people were injured, two seriously, after the collision of two cars on the Main Route (IP) 2, in the municipality of Castelo de Vide (Portalegre).

The GNR source indicated that the death of the 44-year-old woman was declared on the spot, and the body was sent to the Legal Medicine service of the Portalegre hospital.

Françoise Fernandes Faustino, born in Mata, Castelo Branco, was technical director of the Portuguese Association of Parents and Friends of Citizens with Mental Disabilities of Castelo Branco.

According to the same source, one of the seriously injured, an 11-year-old boy, was transported by helicopter from the National Institute of Medical Emergencies (INEM) to the Santa María Hospital in Lisbon.

The other four wounded, one seriously, a 50-year-old woman, and three minors, a 15-year-old young man, an 18-year-old young man and a 54-year-old man, were taken to the Portalegre hospital, according to a source from the District Command of Relief Operations. (CDOS) of Portalegre.

The alert, according to the CDOS, was given at 6:42 pm, with the mobilization of firefighters and vehicles from the Castelo de Vide, Portalegre, Nisa and Crato corporations, an emergency medical vehicle and resuscitation (VMER) from Portalegre and an INEM helicopter, in addition to GNR, in a total of 40 elements, supported by 15 vehicles.

The highway, which connects Alpalhão with Alagoa, was cut in both directions.
