In a year to celebrate its 25th anniversary, and after the event was suspended last March due to the covid-19 pandemic, the Portugal Fashion (PF) organization assumes that it wants to return, on the 15th, 16th and October 17, at its headquarters in Alfândega do Porto, with a “reinvented” presentation model and with the mission of “protecting national talent”, creating a “hybrid model”, where they will combine, now outdoor parades, With the premise of the distances required by the General Directorate of Health, now online fashion shows digitally presented.

“The health crisis motivates a profound reinvention of the event, reflected in new models of organization of the parades, new ways of communicating creations and new ways of interacting with the public,” explained the director of the PF, Mónica Neto.

In addition to the changes imposed by the covid-19, the PF will be different in this edition, “due to the difficult time that Portuguese fashion is going through, similar to many other economic and cultural activities,” adds Mónica Neto, referring to the impact The socio-economic situation of The pandemic is “strongly penalizing the fashion industry” and that, for this reason, Portugal Fashion has the “added duty of supporting and giving hope to designers and brands”.

It is in this 25th anniversary edition, where the new spring-summer 2021 collections of designers and brands such as Alexandra Moura, Alves / Gonçalves, David Catalán, Hugo Costa, Luís Onofre, Maria Gambina, Marques’Almeida, Miguel Vieira will parade. Katty Xiomara, Sophia Kah, among others, as well as the debut of Ernest W. Baker, a men’s fashion brand in which the talent of young designers Reid Baker and Inês Amorim is revealed.

The Portuguese brand Ernest W. Baker, which is a tribute to Reid’s eponymous grandfather, was part of the official calendar of Paris Fashion Week last July and is on sale in Italy, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong , China. and South Korea, reveals the organization.

“Today, perhaps as never in these 25 years of Portugal Fashion, it is our obligation to protect national talent. And I don’t think there is a better way than this to celebrate our 25th anniversary ”, considers Mónica Neto.

To cushion the effects of the health and economic crisis in the fashion industry, PF also highlights three initiatives aimed at promoting sales and boosting business, namely the protocol with the Porto City Council, agreements with electronic commerce platforms’ and the alliance with Lupabiológica.

The FP and the Porto City Council signed a protocol that defines the municipality’s “institutional support” for the event, guaranteeing greater resources to reinforce the position of that organization in the national and international fashion ecosystem, strengthening the “dynamic city / region as a ‘hub’ of innovation, entrepreneurship, manufacturing, exports, creativity and culture ”, explains the structure.

The 46th edition, on March 13, of the Alfândega do Porto PF, was interrupted, in the context of the prevention of the covid-19 pandemic. The PF is a project in charge of the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE), which has the support of its strategic partners and is co-financed by Portugal 2020, within the framework of Compete 2020 – Competitiveness and Internationalization Operational Program, with funds of the European Union, through the European Regional Development Fund.
