23 more people died in Portugal with covid-19 and confirmed cases increased by 2.8% – coronavirus

The number of deaths in Portugal due to the new coronavirus has increased to 785, which translates into an increase of 23 deaths compared to yesterday, when 762 were counted, the DGS announced this Wednesday, April 22.

The number of infected (confirmed cases) increased 2.82% to 21,982, and in absolute terms the increase in cases was 603. Yesterday they had increased 2.47% to 21,379.

The the daily growth in the number of deaths has decreased in absolute terms (23 against 27 yesterday), while the growth rate also slowed (3% against 3.7% yesterday).

There’s a slight increase in the growth rate of the number of infected (2.82% against 2.47% yesterday). In absolute terms it also accelerated (603 against 516 yesterday).

The growth rate of new cases has been around 3% since April 11, and the growth rate of deaths has also been declining.

Taking into account the number of infected and fatal victims, the case fatality rate is 3.57%, slightly above what was registered yesterday (3.56%).

According to the DGS daily bulletin, there are 454 deaths in the north (more than half of the total), 138 in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, 175 in the center and 11 in the Algarve. The Azores recorded six deaths, Alentejo recorded the first death and Madeira remains without fatalities to mourn.

Among the fatalities, 527 are over 80 years old (69% of the total); 161 between 70 and 79; 67 between 60 and 69; 20 between 50 and 59 and nine years between 40 and 49 years. 395 are women and 390 men.

More than 200 people recovered in 24 hours.

The number of suspected cases increased to 210,302 (it was 202,769 yesterday) and 3,219 people await the results of laboratory tests (5,009 yesterday).

There are 1,143 cases recovered, which remain above the number of deaths and well above the values ​​recorded in recent days. Within 24 hours, the number of people recovered increased by 226.

The number of people under surveillance by the authorities is now 30,646 (against 30,646 yesterday).

Fewer patients in hospitals on the sixth day

The data indicates that of the more than 21 thousand confirmed cases, 1,146 they are hospitalized in hospitals, which corresponds to a decrease of 2% compared to yesterday (1,172).

Regarding the patients admitted to the Intensive care units (ICU), there was a drop of 3%, to 207 (yesterday they had fallen 1% to 213).

This was the sixth day in a row followed by a decrease in the number of people hospitalized and the fourth in the number of people hospitalized in ICUs.

Therefore, only 0.94% of infected people enter intensive care. Of the total, 5.36% of those infected are hospitalized.

The northern region (13,150) continues to be the region with the highest number of confirmed cases, with more than half of the total. They are followed by Lisbon and the Tagus Valley (5093), Centro region (3053) and Algarve (316). There are 109 cases in the Azores, 85 in Madeira and 176 in Alentejo.
